~~ CT Tutorial ~~ Fight Like A Girl! Featuring Shining Star Art ♥

This tutorial was written by me, Mary Oakes aka Ariez Moon, on October 3, 2014. Any similarity to any other tutorial is purely coincidental. Please abide my TOU.

This tutorial was created with Paintshop Pro X4 but can done on other programs and/or versions.

Supplies:

Paintshop Pro or Program of choice.

Tube of choice: I am using a gorgeous PTU Poser tube called Sloane by Shining Star Art. You can find this lovely at

Scrap Kit of choice: I chose to use a pretty PTU pinkalicious kit in leu of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, from Tiny Turtle Designs called Coco Dreams and you can purchase this kit at

.

Items Used

Paper 18

Elements – 21, 22, 58, 67, 76, 77, 87, 135, 136, and 140

Mask of Choice: I am using Lise's mask # 2 and you can find it HERE

Fonts of Choice: I chose to use FFF Majestica for the ©, Hobo STD for the word art, and Love Light for my name.

Filters of Choice: I used:

Eye Candy 5 Impact – Gradient Glow, Perspective Shadow, and Glass

Xero – Porcelain, Mistifier, and Fuzzifier

Flaming Pear – SuperBlade Pro with the M_Coconutice Preset. You can find the preset HERE along with some other pretty presets.

Toadies – What Are You?

Ok Grab snacks, soda/coffee, smokes etc. Get comfy. Ready??

Please remember to save your work often!! Away We Go!! WEEEE!!!1

Open a New Image 900x900, transparent background. 72 ppi. And name the file whatever you like. Hit OK. I know its big but this will give us room to work with and we will re-size later.

Flood Fill Layer 1 with white so that you can see what you are doing.. Double click on the layer in the Layers Palette and re-name this layer Background.

Open paper 18. Right click on the top of the image and choose Copy. Right click on the top of your working canvas and choose Paste as New Layer.

Open up your Mask, click on your working canvas and go to LAYERS>NEW MASK LAYER>FROM IMAGE. In the drop down menu choose Lise Mask 2. Source luminance ticked and click OK.

In the Layers Palette, Right Click on the Mask Layer and choose MERGE>MERGE GROUP. Right click again and choose Duplicate. Click on the eye of your Background layer in the Layer Palette to close the layer off, Right click on one of the mask layers and choose MERGE>MERGE VISIBLE

Duplicate this layer, close off the top layer, click on the bottom mask layer and go to EFFECTS>PLUGINS>TOADIES>WHAT ARE YOU?. X and Y Dose both at 14.

Duplicate this layer, and Merge Visible. Un-hide the top layer and Merge Visible. Rename this layer Mask. Un-hide the Background layer.

STOP!! HIT SAVE!!

Click on the top layer In your Layer Palette. Open element 15. Copy and Paste as a New Layer onto your working Canvas. Apply the filter Xero - Mistifier to the layer with the default settings. Rename this layer Frame.

Open element 75 and Copy and Paste it as a new layer. Drag the layer in the Layers Palette under the frame layer, and position it to your liking with the Move Tool. Make the frame layer active and with your Magic Wand Tool click inside the frame. Go to SELECTIONS>MODIFY>EXPAND, and expand by 8 px. Go to SELECTIONS>INVERT Click on the black heart layer, then hit Delete on your keyboard. This should get rid of all the rest of the heart that sat outside of the frame layer. Apply Xero – Fuzzifier to this layer. Right click on the Frame layer and choose MERGE>MERGE DOWN.

Open and Copy and Paste your tube. If needed, re-size by 70% and Sharpen. Slightly move the tube to the right of the frame and down a bit with your Move Tool. Duplicate the tube. On the top tube go to ADJUST>BLUR>GAUSSIAN BLUR by 4 or 5px. Set that layer's Blend Mode to Overlay. On the bottom tube apply Xero - porcelain at the default settings. Close off all but the two tube layers in the Layers Palette, right click on one of the two layers and Merge Visible. Name this layer Tube. Un-hide all layers.

STOP!! HIT SAVE!!

Make the top layer active in your Layer Palette. Open element 67 and Copy and Paste as a New Layer onto your working canvas. Re-size by 50% making sure that Resize All Layers is UN CHECKED.. Go to IMAGE>FREE ROTATE and rotate 20 degrees to the Right. Sharpen and place over the bottom of the legs of the tube. I colorized the fan a bit, just to make the pink a little darker, but you don't have to, if you don't want to. Rename this layer Fan.

Open and Copy and Paste as a new layer element 140. Position the flower to the right of your tube, and drag the layer down under the tube layer, in your Layers Palette. Rename this layer Jeweled Flower.

Open and Copy and Paste as a new layer element 58. Re-size if you so desire. Drag this layer down under the black flower and position the roses just under the tubes elbow.. Rename this layer Rose Cluster.

Open and Copy and Paste element 22. Re-size the flower by 40 to 50%. It will all depend on how big you want it to be. Drag the layer under the frame layer and position the flower just under the leaves of the rose from the frame. Duplicate the flower twice and drag one of the layers above the Fan layer, in your Layer Palette. With your eraser tool, erase the part of the flower that covers the bottom of the rose and the leaves. With the other duplicated layer position the other flower just to the left of the original under the frame. See my tag for reference. Rename these layers Pink Flowers 1, 2, and 3.

Click on the Fan layer to make it active and Duplicate it. Drag this layer above the flower that you just used your eraser on, and erase part of the Fan that covers the upper petals of the flowers. Rename this layer Fan 2.

STOP!! HIT SAVE!!!

Open, Copy and Paste element 135. Position the layer below the Frame layer but above the Pink Flower layer of the left side of the Frame. Rename Layer to Black Rose.

Open, Copy and Paste element .136 and position it on top of the Black Rose, right in the middle. Re-size if you like, but I didn't. IMAGE>ROTATE>FREE ROTATE and rotate by 20 degrees to the right.. Rename this layer Skull.

Ok, last element for the time being. Open, Copy and Paste element 87. Go to IMAGE>MIRROR and then re-size down to your liking. Drag the layer above your Frame Layer in the Layers Palette and position the Butterfly near the large rose on the Frame. Rename this layer Butterfly.

Now take a look at your tag and see if everything is where you want it. Lookin' gorgeous!!!! Click on each layer one at a time and give them a light fat drop shadow using Eye Candy 5 Imapct – Perspective Shadow. DO NOT put a shadow on Pink Flower 2 and Fan 2 or you will see where you erased on it. You can use these settings or one of your own.

Delete your Background layer. We no longer need it.

Now let's do a little re-sizing. Click on your Mask layer and re-size by 80%. Click on your Crop Tool on the Tool Bar Palette. Up top you will see the settings options. Find where it says “Snap crop rectangle to” and click on the very last button. When you hover your cursor over it, it should read Merged Opaque. Click on the green check mark to apply it.

Close off the Mask layer in the Layers Palette. Go to IMAGE>RESIZE and re-size by 70 or 80%. It will depend on how big you want your tag and what tube you are using as far as their TOU goes. This time make sure that Resize All Layers IS CHECKED. Un hide your Mask layer. Now Click on each layer, one at a time respectively and sharpen each layer.

STOP!! HIT SAVE!!

Alrighty then! On to the text!

Grab your Pen Tool! We need to draw a path for our text to go. Now, here, we could have used our ellipse tool but I didn't want a perfect circle. Pen Tool settings below:

Draw a slightly wavy but curved line, starting near the Black Rose and ending just near your tubes head. You should now have a Vector layer in your Layer Palette. That is a good thing!

Grab your Text Tool. Set your Font at Hobo STD Set the Size around 40 points. If it ends up to big, that is OK cuz we can fix it after you are done typing out the text. In your Materials Palette choose a pink color of your liking for the Background/Fill properties, and Null out Forground/Stroke properties. Start at the very left of the line. Hover your cursor over the line and when you see the cursor change to an A with a rounded line under it Left click.

Type out “Fight Like A Girl”. If your text looks ok, click the check mark in the settings bar to apply.

If your text looks too small or too big, highlight your text by dragging + left click or your text, just like you would regular text. Click inside the Size box in the Settings bar and use your mouse wheel to scroll up or down as needed. The size of the text will change as you do so. When you are happy with it, click on the check mark to apply it.

Now you should have marching ants known as a Selection around your text. In your filters, apply Flaming Pear – SuperBlade Pro with the M_coconutice preset. ( please refer to the supplies section above if you do not know how to use SBP. I have a link there that will take you to a site away from my blog, where there is a tut on how to use it. ). DO NOT Deselect yet, Sharpen, and then go to your filters and apply Eye Candy 5 Impact – Glass with these settings.

Sharpen. Deselect and apply Eye Candy 5 Impact – Gradient Glow with these setting and the color White, or one of your own:

Apply the Gradient Glow a second time, this time using the pink color from your text. Add the Perspective Shadow. Now Delete the VECTOR layer. Drag your Text layer under your Frame layer in the Layers Palette and position the text just under the Frame a bit. Rename this layer Text.

Grab your Text Tool. Font set to Love Light, size at 36 points, Alignment to Center, Anti-Alias to Smooth, and change the Stroke Width to 3. In your Materials Palette choose a light pink for your Forground/Stroke properties, and a dark pink for your Background/Fill Properties. Type out your name, and using the same steps as above apply your filters, but instead of using Gradient Glow twice, only use it once with the White. Position where you are happy with it. Rename this layer Name. Tip – If you are a batch scripter you may wanna create your text as Vector, instead of floating, Duplicate your text vector layer. On the top layer convert to Raster then select all>float>defloat, then apply your filters. That we you always have your text layer there.

One last time, Grab your Text Tool for your © credits. Font FFF Majestica, Size 8 pixels. Alignment Left, Anti-Alias Off, Stroke Width 0, and Create as Vector. Type out your credits and License # if needed. Convert to Raster and apply any affects to it, to make it stand out with out it taking away from the tag itself. Most people use a soft shadow or gradient glow. Position to your liking. Rename this layer ©

Open, Copy and Paste element 77 as a new layer. Drag the layer under the Frame layer but above the Text layer. Position to your liking, Duplicate and again position to your liking. Rename these layers Scatter 1 and 2.

STOP!! HIT SAVE!!

Home stretch!! Close off Mask, Text, Scatter 1 and 2, Name, and © layers. Right click on an open layer and MERGE>MERGE VISIBLE. Let's make it look a little dreamy, so apply Xero – Mistifier at the default settings. Apply Perspective Shadow. Make sure that this Layer is under your © and Name layer, in the layers Palette. Open all Layers.

STOP!! HIT SAVE!!

Export as Transparent PNG, Name it, save it in which ever directory you want and WAHOOOO, You are finished!!!

~~ CT Tutorial For Shining Star Art ~~ The Colors Of Jaime

This tutorial was created in Photoshop but can be done in other Programs as well, and is written to help beginners and pros alike.

Supplies:

Photoshop or program of choice.

Filters: MuRa's Meister Copies, FFormula Honeycomb, Mehdi Edge FX, and filters within Photoshop.

Tube of choice: I am using the gorgeous Poser tube " Jaime " by Shining Star Art. You can find this gorgeous tube at 

.

Please do not use her art without the appropriate license to do so.

Texture of choice: I am using a very pretty texture by Sanami276  from DeviantArt. The texture name is ohfreckle_122.

Brushes of choice: Floral Swashy Brushes. You can find a bunch on DeviantART. Just make sure that you follow TOU's.

Fonts of choice: I am using PF Arma Five for the © and Lobster for the name.

Are ya comfy? Got a snack and maybe a cuppa? Alrighty!!

Let's begin :)!

REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!

If you feel you have messed up somewhere, remember that EDIT > UNDO is your bestest friend!!

File > New. 600 x 250px. Transparent background, 72ppi. Name it whatever you wish.

Create a new layer. Open up your tube. Find tube layers that you like OTHER THAN the main tube you are going to use for your tags. For example. I am going to use the Jaime that is wearing the white and light blue clothing for my main tube, so I chose the Jaime wearing one of the darker clothes.  Or not. It will all depends on what colors you would like to see in your tag. Remember, tutorials are just a guide, and not made to be set in stone.

 Drag a copy of that tube into the center of your working canvas and resize it a bit.

Go to Filter > MuRa's Meister Copies with the following settings

Hit OK. Double click on this layer in the Layer Palette and rename this layer " Copies "

Right click on the layer in the Layers Palette and choose Duplicate.

Go to Filter > FFormula > Honeycomb with the following settings

Hit OK.

Go to Filter > Mehdi > Edge FX with the following settings

Hit OK. Rename this layer Mehdi. Change the Blend Mode to Exclusion and lower the Layer Opacity to 45%.

STOP!! FILE > SAVE!

Click on the Copies layer, right click and choose Duplicate. When the window pops up, name this Blur. Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with the following settings

Hit OK.

Open Sanami276 texture, Go to the top of the image, right click and choose Image Size. Resize it down a bit. Apply the texture to your working canvas. Change the layers Blending Mode to Soft Light.

Grab a Selection Tool. Doesn't matter which one. I used the Magnetic Lasso at default settings. Select parts of her clothing that you want to stand out in the tag. In my case, I chose the words on my main tubes clothing. 

Go to Edit > Copy click on your working canvas Edit > Paste. Position it all the way to the left of the canvas.  Duplicate it as many times as you want and move them around on your canvas. When you have it the way you want it. 

Close all layers but the pieces you just put in, right click on one of them and choose Merge Visible. 

Open your layers back up. Set Blending Mode to Overlay.

Apply your tube to the working canvas. Resize and position her in the middle. Duplicate and flip her horizontally. Edit > Transform > Flip Horizonal. Position all the way to the left of the canvas.

Go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur. Set Angle to 90 and Distance to 20. Hit OK.

Duplicate your main tube once more, and move it all the way over to right of the canvas. Once again go to Motion Blur but only change the angle to -90 and kit OK.

Change both layers Blending Modes to Hard Light.

Create a new layer. Grab your Paint Brush Tool, load the brush you wish to use and apply it where you would like on the canvas. You may choose to use several different brushes, just make sure you create a new layer for each time you stroke. If you have more then one layer, close off all other layers and Merge Visible. Set your brush stroke layer to Hard Light in the Blending Modes. Open your layers back up. Drag this layer all the way down below your Mehdi layer.

Right click, Merge Visible. Double click and rename this layer Background.

STOP!! FILE > SAVE!!

Create a new layer. Go to Select > Select All > Select > Modify > Expand > Border. Type in 10. Hit OK. 

Set your Forground color to #7c1112, grab your Paint Bucket Tool and click inside the selection. Sometimes, it won't look uniform if you only click once, so click a couple of times to make sure it is filled properly. Deselect.

Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and type in 32, Tick Uniform, and tick Monochrome.

Hit OK, Double click on the layer in the Layer Palette and rename this to Border.

 Double click on the thumbnail in the Layer Palette to bring up the Layer Styles Palette. Use the following settings or some of your own

Click OK.

Drag your main tube layer all the way to the top of the Layer Palette. Add a Drop Shadow that suits you.  Grab your Eraser Tool with a small hard brush and carefully erase the bottom of the tube so that it looks like the frame sits over it.

Take a look at your tag and see if there are any final adjustments that you would like to make. Everything look OK? Good, Now let's finish it up with our Name and ©.

STOP!! FILE > SAVE!

Grab your Text Tool. Set your font to Lobster, color White, size 72 ( may have to adjust according to length of name ), Center Text chosen, and Anti-Aliasing set to Smooth. Now just to forwarn you, your text is going to look too widely spaced apart when you enter it. Don't worry. We will fix that in a moment. Type out one letter at a time but hit Enter after each letter stroke. Example: M > Enter, A > Enter, R > Enter, Y > Enter..... get the idea?? OK LOL

Now to fix the Leading ( spacing ). Double click on the thumbnail of your text in the Layer Palette. This will highlight your text.  Look for your Character Styles Palette, I can't tell you where it is because I don't know what version of Photoshop you are using, but it looks like this

Click on it to open it.

Find the tracking for Leading.

Now if you are not using 72pt for your text size you may have to play with it a bit, but you can see the changes as you go. Once you are happy just click on the Check Mark at the top of the Text Tool Bar. Easy Peasy!!!

Position your text to the right of your tube. Right click on the layer in the Layer Palette, and bring up the Layer Style Palette. Choose Stroke, color Black, Stoke size 2.  And a Drop Shadow of choice.

Duplicate your text and position it to the left side of your tube.  Click on the arrow to make the Layer Style Visible. Click on Color Overlay, and change from White to Black. Click on Stoke and change Black to White. 

Change your font to PF Arma Five, size 8pt, Color of choice, Left Align Text, and Anti-Aliasing to None. Add the proper ©.

STOP!! FILE > SAVE!

Now before we are done, click on your Border layer in the Layer Palette, right click and choose Copy Layer Style. This is important for your Avatar.

Go to File > Save For Web. Choose JPEG, Hit Save, Do not close it yet!

Avatar

File > New Image. 150 x 150px. Transparent background. 72ppi. Name your File.

Click on your Background layer on your main tag and drag it over to your Avatar. Position how you like.

Create a new layer and follow the steps above to make the Border, but stop after you add the noise. Unless you want to do all that work over again. Instead, right click on the layer in the Layer Palette and choose Paste Layer Style. Wham! That just saved you all that work!

Grab your Text Tool.

Now go back to your main tag, and choose one of the name layers. Will depend on what color you want to use for your AV. Right click on the layer and copy the Layer Style. This will also set your font for you. 

On your AV, type out the letter you wish to use. Right click and paste the Layer Style to the letter. 

STOP!! FILE > SAVE!

You are finished!! Go to File > Save For Web, choose JPEG, SAVE!! Woot! Woot!!

This tutorial was created in Photoshop but can be done in other Programs as well, and is written to help beginners and pros alike. I for one am kinda new at Photoshop myself!! :) Don't let it intimidate you!! Seriously, it is almost as easy as PSP and a lot of tools and such are basically the same. 

Supplies:

Photoshop or program of choice.

Filters: Only those within Photoshop.

Tube of choice: I am using the gorgeous Poser tube "Jaime" By Shining Star Art and you can find her at

Fonts: FFF Protegy for © - Billion Stars for your Name - VTKS Classical Hit and Music Warrior for the word art.

Photoshop Style: A silver style that looks best on small fonts. 

Mask: Inspired By Samii Mask 1 from Creative Misfits. Sorry but I can't find the actual link.

Lets Begin... weeeee!!

REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!!

If you feel that you have messed up, remember that UNDO is your bestest friend!!

File > New Image 900 x 900 pixels, so you have room to work with. Transparent background. 72ppi, and name the file whatever it is that you would like to call it. 

Set up and apply your mask. In Photoshop you have to remove the black in your mask, unlike PSP. I use a Photoshop action to prepare my masks. You can find a tut on how to do this also at Rebel Dezigns.  Hold down the Shift key while clicking on the masks thumbnail in the layer palette and dragging it into your new canvas. 

Grab your Move Tool and in the settings in the upper tool bar, make sure Show Transform Control is ticked, grab some points of the mask and stretch it out a bit in all sides to make the mask bigger. 

Open paper 3. Place in the middle of your working canvas and just like you did with your mask, stretch it out to cover your mask layer. 

Create a clipping mask by moving your cursor between the paper and mask thumbnails in the layers palette, hold the Alt key and click. Now make that paper layer active, right click and choose Duplicate Layer. Use your Move Tool and rotate the paper clockwise some, to your liking. Set the Blending Mode for this layer to Overlay. Right click and choose Merge Visible.

STOP!! HIT FILE > SAVE!

Open element 18 and apply it to the center of your working canvas. Double click on the layer's thumbnail to pull up the Blending Options and click on Drop Shadow. Don't touch anything, just leave it at default settings. Hit OK.

Open element 21 place over the bottom center of the Frame element. You may choose to resize this if you would like, but I didn't. If you choose to resize make sure you hold Alt+Shift as you do it so you keep it proportional. In Blending Options add the default Drop Shadow.

Open your Jaime tube. Apply her to the middle of your canvas and resize to your liking. Position her so that she is between the Cityscape and the Frame. Add a drop shadow that looks best to you.

Open element 6. Make the Frame layer active. Place element 6 behind and to the right of the Cityscape element, so that it rests on the Frame element. Resize to your liking if you wish.

Grab your Eraser Tool, zoom in on the element and erase a small section of the balloon's stick to make it look like it is going through one of the chain links. Also erase part of the star to make it look as though it is under the frame. Reference below.

STOP!! HIT THE SAVE BUTTON!

Click on the Cityscape to make it active. Open element 25 and apply it to your working canvas. Resize it and move it to the bottom left of the Cityscape. Add the default Drop Shadow.

Open element 41 and apply it to your working canvas. Add the default Drop Shadow and position at bottom left of the Cityscape, Drag the layer down under the Emo Bear in the layer palette so it sits behind the bear.

Open element 34. Resize and move it above but to the bottom right of the Cityscape.

Open element 40. Resize and position it just above the Headphones.  Rotate it slightly clockwise. Add the same default Drop Shadow to add a little definition to the element. 

STOP!! HIT THE SAVE BUTTON!

Word Art

Grab your Text Tool. Font VTKS Classical Hit, size 72, color Black. Type out the words Rock ~N~ Roll. If you are happy with it apply the text by clicking on the Check Mark in the Tool Bar.  Right click on the text layer thumbnail in the layer palette and pull up the Blending Options palette. Use the following settings:

Create a new layer. Grab your Text Tool again with the font Music Warrior, size 40, and any color. It doesn't matter because we will be applying a style over it. 

Type out the words We Built This City On. If you are happy with it, click the check mark to apply it. Move the text so it sits on top of Rock N Roll near the bottom. Apply your silver layer style. Ctrl+Click on the Rock N Roll text layer in the Layer palette, then position your word art just a little over the top of the headphones so that it looks like the wing of the heart is lying over it. 

STOP!! HIT SAVE!

Now take one final look at your tag and see if you want to make any adjustment with positioning, drop shadows and what not. Adjust as needed. 

Go to Image > Trim with the following setting. This will crop all the transparent space around your tag.

Now right click on the top of your working canvas and choose Image Size. Under Pixel Dimensions, make sure that pixels are selected and type in 600 for the Width. Make sure that all three boxes at the bottom are checked and hit OK. Your tag should now be an appropriate size.

Last steps adding your name and © information.

Make your top layer active and create a new layer. Grab your Ellipse Tool and make sure that the Path Button, Cirlcle, and From Middle is selected. Follow my red dots on the screenshot for a better idea.

Find the approximate middle of your frame and click and drag out a cirlce to just about the middle part of the chain and release your mouse. You should now have a path there for your text.

Grab your text tool with the font Billion Stars, size 100, color black. On the left side of your tag, Place your cursor over the text until it changes to a little tail like this ~. Type out your name. Make a selection on your name by Ctrl+click on the Text layer thumbnail. Go to Select > Modify > Expand and type in 2.

 Create a new layer.

Grab  your Paint Bucket Tool using a light gray color from your Cityscape and flood fill the selection a couple of times. Do not deselect.  Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and type in 50. Hit OK. Keep selected Go to Filter > Pixelate > Pointillize, and set the slider to 3. Deselect. 

Go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask with these settings.

Add the default Drop Shadow and drag this layer under the text layer in the Layer palette.

Add the correct © with FFF Protege, size 8pt., Anti-Aliasing set to None, color black with a stroke of white and you are done!!

HIT FILE > SAVE!!!  Then File > Save for Web in PNG !!

I am soooooo EXCITED!!!!!

Like I said in an earlier post ( couple weeks ago? ), I am treading on all kinds of new waters lately. New news!!! I have been accepted on a Creative Team!!! Woot Woot!!! Two actually, but for the same person. Kaci McVay's Scrappin' Krazy Designs and Shining Star Art!!! Beautiful kits in her stores and Gorgeous Poser tubes at The PSP Project!!! Lovin' it!! 

My first tut using one of Kaci's tubes should be up tomorrow along with a tut using one of her kits, and some other special goodies so keep an eye out!!!
